杨玉璇,又名杨玉璿、杨璇、杨璿。据《康熙·漳浦县志》载:“杨玉璇,善雕寿山石,凡人物、鸟兽、器皿,俱极精巧,当事争延致之。古人对杨玉璇的评价甚高,推他为“钮雕第一人”,称他是顺治年间寿山石雕的巨匠。其独特的雕刻技艺,对后世影响巨大,被尊为“独特技艺的鼻祖”。世传其曾被据为御工,无从考证,而北京故宫博物院藏其作品颇丰,足以证明清廷皇族对杨玉璇雕刻艺术的赏证与宠爱。

此作真正形成了“运刀如笔”的功力,手凿运刀如持笔挥毫。刀刀衔接,圆融流利,讲求刀韵,其刀法蕴含中国书画的笔墨韵味,艺术感染力极强。“鹿”与“禄”谐音,因此被古人奉为“瑞兽”。
